Clothing
Dress isn't an issue for Family Day or for graduation. It's important to
be comfortable. It's absolutely appropriate to wear jeans or shorts if that
is what you want to wear. I think they do prefer that you stay on the conservative
side, if for nothing else, the sake of your new Marine and the opinions
of his or her peers and their parents but, again, it's not a fashion show
so no need to dress up if you don't want to. You'll also want to wear comfortable
shoes since you will do a lot of walking on Family Day. The new Marines
wear their Service Alphas and military guests are asked to wear their service
equivalent or dress uniforms.
Be sure and check the weather before
leaving home. As you can see in the photo above, it sometimes gets very
cold and you'll want to dress warm if need be.
The photo above was taken in San Diego but it's a great example
of a typical family. Each battalion has their own color. On this particular
day 2nd Battalion was graduating. Their color is gold.
