Lowcountry Estuarium
Find out:
What an estuary is (the meeting of fresh and salt
water which makes its own eco-system)
Why is an estuary important (the creatures that live and thrive
in an estuary serve as a food source to both larger freshwater
and sea creatures)
What would happen if estuaries were to vanish due to pollution
and loss of habitat (local recreational and, to a certain extent,
commercial fishing would be drastically effected)
I know this has nothing to do with graduation but this place is
worth noting. You might want to visit the Lowcountry Estuarium in
Downtown Port Royal, SC. Location: the corner of Paris Avenue &
14th Street in historic Port Royal, SC, next to the park.
Children love to watch as they feed the fish, crab, shrimp, terrapins
and various other creatures at 11:30am and 3:00pm.
The cost of admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children 3 to 11
years of age, and no-charge for children 2 years of age and under.
Best of all, your new Marine gets in free!
The Lowcountry Estuarium is a non-profit 501c3 organization. They
are open 10 to 5 Wednesday thru Saturday. Take some time and stop
by. You won't regret it!
Hunting Island
Hunting Island State Park
This doesn't have anything to do with graduation either but if
you're not from the coast you might want to visit Hunting Island
State Park. It has a beautiful shoreline and a lighthouse that is
open to the public.
Pictured left is an 84 year-old gentleman from New Hampshire, by the name
of Arthur I believe, who had just finished climbing to the top of the lighthouse
(167 steps), so it's definitely something for everyone to enjoy.
Driving
Directions: Hunting Island is 16 miles east of Beaufort on Hwy. 21 or
42 mi. E. of I-95 on Hwy 21.
